Fished with my fishing buddy today

I met my fishing buddy this morning at West Point Reservoir , one of the more popular reservoirs in my state . Known more it’s crappie and bass fishing than it is for bluegills.
Our plan was to fish a few areas around the many boat ramps.
I took a couple of flyrods and a couple of UL combos , but never got the spinning rods out .
My buddy fished his old faithful 5’ Ugly Stik with a Fire Tiger Roostertail .
I caught 22 small gills total , including one small redbreast .
My buddy caught 16 including a few small bass .
About half our time spent was sitting at one of the many picnic tables taking breaks and solving the world’s problems and comparing aches and pains :Rofl .
The drive was a little less than an hour and a half , but it was worth the drive .
Here’s one of my better gills and the primary rod I used today . A 6’7” fiberglass 3wt rod paired with a Sage reel , spooled with a 5wt WF line to load the rod better for the short casts I needed to make . Most were roll casts because of the trees around .
Fun day !

Sounds like a perfect time. With an old friend the fishing is secondary.

Visiting with a friend always makes me feel elated for quite a while after we go our own ways. Sounds like y’all had a big time and enjoyed yourselves. Some nice looking fish too.

I live on Jackson which doen't have much size to our bream but have a friend that fishes west point and catches some good ones both blue gill and shell cracker. Scott

We’re going to have to find them .
We’re in the process of exploring bank fishing locations.
I think we’re going to need to go up river and check out some feeder creeks .
I used to fish Jackson a lot . About thirty years ago .
Usually up the Alcovy River arm and IIRC Bear Creek . Put in at Berry’s
Caught some decent gills in that area .

Met up with my fishing buddy this morning.
Same reservoir, same boat ramp picnic area .
Water was down about a foot .
Not a whole lot of action in the catching of gills except a few small ones that entertained me on my 2wt flyrod.
Found a section boat ramp rip rap that had a few green sunfish hiding in the rocks .
These fish are tiny but are they are becoming one of my favorites to catch on an ultralight flyrod .
Just about the most colorful freshwater fish out there .
Just fun getting together with an old friend , made the drive worth it .
The little gills were just icing . :)
