Please share some ideas as to how to determine trolling speed when long lining. I used to use a Magellan hand held unit but It has died. Don't worry about price. I still have my face mask from the Pandemic:Rofl

I have a humminbird and it can read in .1 increments of speed. I also have a minnkota older remote control trolling motor. It helps quite a bit to get the speed close to where I want it.
If you’re looking for a speed readout, look up an app called “Fishing points”. It’s free and the first thing you get when you open it is google earth and a speed readout in the bottom left of the screen. It would help if you have a method of charging the phone if you’re going to use it long term.

Touch the three bars on the top left and it will also open other options, one being fish activity relating to solunar tables. I use it and have had it be spot on for feeding times but have had the number relating to fish activity level be low and I have a good day. YMMV
There are lots of smart phone apps that show you your speed. Additionally my Terova remote tells me my speed, and my Garmin fish finder tells me too. Not sure if that helps, but I thought I'd share.Quote:
