I'm a bass fisherman. For more than 30 years when fishing for crappies I've taken one of my medium fast 6'6 or 7' spinning rods with a 2500 stradic or vanford etc and pitched 1/16" oz jigs when crappie fishing. Yes the rods a bit stiff medium 1/4 - 5/8 oz rod. I need a couple of rods for throwing jigs at docks that will work well with the 2500 reels. Don't want anything flimsy. Cost is not an issue. Any advise would be appreciated.
I prefer a light action. For most crappie fishing it does well for me
It is going to be a little difficult to get out of bass fishing mode, but crappie have thin mouth tissue and the hooks used in a 1/16 oz jig are thin and sharp. For these reasons some gear adjustments are necessary. I recommend 4# mono for a good amount of stretching ability. A rod such as an Okuma sst 8ft rated for 4# line and 1/16-1/8 oz lures. This is going to obviously be not matching with a 2500 size spinning reel,but you are used to buying every reel under the sun if you have been a bass fisherman. Welcome to the other side.

Suggest you look at BnM rods they have the Buck's Ultimate described for casting or flipping. It's available in 8' & 10' with both being 2 piece. I have not used this rod but am very happy with several other models of their rods.
I called B&M. Person I spoke with told me a 2500 reel is too big for their rods and I would need to go to a 1000, which i dont want to do.Quote:

Don't let the 2500 moniker fool you .... the 2500 Vanford weighs 6.3oz and the 2500 Stradic weighs 7.9oz
My (old) Shimano Spirex 2000 weighs over 8oz and perfectly balances my 7' Bionic Blade IM8 Med Action rod .... so the Stradic would work, but the Vanford would be too light. (rod is rated for 1/8-1/2oz ... 4-12# line)
I'm wondering what he means by "throwing jigs at docks" ?? Is that "casting" jigs around docks, or "shooting docks", or both ??
