Predawn Board Meeting 4/24/22

Took the SIL back to pull boards. We got an early start, we had boards in the water by 6:15 am. We were ready and willing. The fish not so much. First fish was a sardine sized white bass. Water temp was 67 . Marked a lot of scattered fish in the area. We pick up a couple of crappie in 8 fow. Blue Ice was the color on pink Road Runner jigheads.Attachment 425460Attachment 425461 Running short on time we pulled in the boards, stowed the rods and headed to one of my favorite docks to get a few shots in before we had to go. Blue Ice was the color of choice. First shot in I was rewarded with that satisfying thump. Few minutes later fish number 2 came from under the dock. All fish were returned to the water after photos were taken. We avoided the skunk on this shoet trip. Wind was getting up pretty good. No worries it was time to head home by 9:30. I fished THAT EXACT same stretch of water a few times over the past week and bites were few and far between. I marked several fish as well but they weren't interested. I, FOR THE LIFE OF ME cannot figure these shallow fish out!!?? I've had a few trips where we caught several fish REALLY shallow, but that bite has died for me now as well.

The 3 that I filleted from last week that wear gill hooked all had eggs in them. None looked ready to spawn. I can't tell what they are doing on that stretch of water. Other areas they seem to be shallow and actively spawning

Well you weren't skunked, it was a pretty looking day and you had your Sil along.

Still caught a few for the supper table which is a good day in my book.

It was a great day. All fish were thrown back. I got the wiring installed for the SIL's A/C when I gets here. Also got a piece of butcher block, routed the edges, stained, 6 coats of finishing wax. Then installed it on the wife's electric lift desk. So she is all happy at the moment

Thanks for the report, Jack. The last couple of females that I caught offshore had already spawned. Many have already spawned and are slowly moving back to summer areas. Still some late spawners to come though. Also, we hit an offshore roadbed that is 14 feet on top of the roadbed in 25 feet of water and caught a few short males still in their dark tuxedoes. Grin.

I will likely shoot docks for the next few weeks and then look for them in deeper water. Been studying some on Walleye fishing as well. Going to give those a try as well.

just watched a fish eat live video (aka crappiekirby)on youtube yesterday that showed a little how to on planer board fishing. interesting way of fishing that im sure takes some getting used to but they were catching some BIG specks at dale hollow. thanks for the report and pics!
