Some Days Are Better Than Others
And then some days are epic!
Got out in the kayak at about 5 PM this evening. The weather was beautiful with a temperature of around 75 and a very slight breeze. Fished until near dark around 8 PM because the fishing was great. Hauled in a mixed bag of Bluegills, Crappie and Bass using mostly the Eurotackle 1" Swimbait, Baby Bluegill color on a 1 gram Diawa Gekkabijn jig head with a #8 hook.

As sunset neared, I decided to try for some topwater action with a Whopper Plopper 75. Several bass were quickly brought in.

Then a monster splashed and took the lure. Sadly, it jumped within a few feet of the kayak and got off. In my disgust, I switched back to the 1" swimbait on the ultralight rig. Not more than a minute or two later, another monster was on the line. After a five minute fight, with the bass pulling me around in the kayak, I managed to get it into the kayak! Success!

I'd like to think that this beast was the one that got off the topwater lure. What are the odds that two 5+ pounders were in the same spot. Regardless, what a way to end a great evening of fishing with 48 fish brought into the kayak.
