Fun In The Mud

River finally came down to fishing levels. Water looked like someone dumped a gazillion gallons of Yahoos in it. Figured as much so tied up some stained water jigs the night before. Caught 4 keepers on minnows and several shorts. Caught the other 26 keepers on these. I think the chartreuse and dark green caught the most but it was pretty close. Tried a couple other colors. Caught fish on them, but these produced quickly and consistently. No giant slabs but most keepers were 10" -12" fish with just a few 9"-ers. Figured I'd give them a break this weekend as we celebrate our risen Lord. If I don't go turkey hunting next week I'll be back on the water. :biggrin

I have to say, when turkey season opens next week I will definitely be in the woods. I do love the crappie thump but that gobble speaks to my soul! :)

That top jig looks like peacock herl. Whatever it is, looks great between the tail and the collar. Good luck on the turkey hunting.

It is. The natural colors collect and reflect light much better than the artificial chenille and gives a slimmer profile. The marabou looks fat when dry but it gathers together when wet to make a nice thin tail. The collar is ice dubbing. Being a fly fisherman, I have quite an array of materials to play with. And crappie jigs are pretty simple. Takes less than a minute to tie each one.
