Side scan problems
Well I have always fished without a fishfinder, until last year. I bought a simrad go9xse for the front of my 16ft Grumman thinking it would help me find more fish and structure. My problem is, I can make out structure (although no where near as clear as other people are getting), but I can’t for the life of me see fish on it. What am I doing wrong? How did you learn how to differentiate and find fish using side scan? Does anyone have this unit? I’m getting kinda frustrated with it. I’ve read that turning off chirp will help and I’m going to try that tomorrow but help me guys. I’ve watched video after video of side scan on YouTube but I’m still not able to see or find anything resembling a fish. Thanks for any help you can give.

I’m not as familiar with the Simrad Menu system ...
Is there an SI Chart Speed or Scroll Speed Menu selection that you can find ... ?
——
SI can be imagined as an MRI taking slice photos of the underwater world - and then software “stitching” those slice photos back together in the displayed SI image ...
*If the boat speed is faster than the unit captures those slice photos - targets will be compressed in the SI image ...
*If the boat speed is slower than the unit captures those slice photos - targets will be stretched in the SI image ...
Some brands offer a “Chart Speed” or “Scroll Speed” setting to adjust for different boat speeds during SI imaging to “match boat speed to Chart Speed” ...
If Simrad does not offer this setting - experiment with SI scanning at slower boat speeds and faster boat speeds to get the “slice photos” stitched (in the software) an optimum rate compared to the boat speed ...

Like rnvic said I have my chart speed set to 5 so while I'm idling around looking it shows clearer even while going at 3mph get good readings

Where is your transducer mounted?
