River Specks
Kinda a "newbie" to freshwater fishing (haven't done so in 35+/- years) and definitely new to specks, but beginning to enjoy this speck fishing game. I've only been out several times lately and I like the searching for structure and locating the fish. . .reminds me a lot of the offshore grouper and snapper fishing I miss so much only in a much smaller scaled down version (much easier on the bank account too - LOL). I went out yesterday on the "Little Big Water" between Floral City and Nobelton and caught a lot of fish, mostly smallish fish, but still a good time. If they were not filleting size, they didn't get an air conditioned one-way ride in my boat nor the invite for dinner. These three made the list and I decided to invite the bass along too. This bass was the biggest (19") that I managed to get in the boat, I had several larger, but with these 11' limber speck-poles I couldn't do much with them and they would get off or wrapped up in the pads. All in all it was a decent day out on the water.

Nice man! Looks like you're fishing on my neck of the woods. Maybe I'll see you out there one of these days. I haven't been on the river in a few weeks, glad to see they're still biting.

Good catch and better dinner. If you’re in among the weeds you might go to a stiffer rod with some braid to up your advantage a little.

As a saltwater guy myself, I compare speck fishing to Spanish mackerel fishing. Basically trolling around till you find the bait and get a couple of bites, then focus on that spot. When I started speck fishing a couple years ago my goal evey trip was to catch 1 lol. Time on the water and linking up with some of the regulars on this site and learning from them will have u catching limits in no time. Nice catch man ;)

Thanks to all who've replied. Yeah, mixing in this speck fishing thing with my deer hunting/scouting has become quite enjoyable. I'm hoping that I get to learn a lot from the folks here on the forum, maybe meet some new hunting/fishing friends, and get to enjoy a new crossroad in life! Thanks again!!!
