Clark Hill Report 3/11
Lines in the water at 7:30AM fishing in the back of a creek in water @ 10' deep (some deeper, some shallower...depending on how shallow you wanted to get.) Stayed in there for 2 hours and had caught @ 30 fish and only had 3 fish in the live well.:( Just couldnt catch much of anything other than those little pesky 6"ers. I know...theyre good to see though as that's next year's fish.;)
Anyway moved back out a little deeper off that flat and seen bait and fish on the graph....bait @ 8' deep and the fish very near the bottom. Now I was in water anywhere from 12' deep nearer the bank to 17' in the channel. I had already switched from pulling 1/32nds back in the shallows to 1/16ths. Atleast what fish I was catching now were decent sized ones but it was slower than I liked.
As I continued trolling I couldnt help but notice all the fish very near the bottom so I added some weight to my jigs but they didnt want that either. With the added weight I trolled around .9-1.0 mph but they werent having no part of that.
So, after removing the weights I settled in running at .7 mph and that seemed to be the ticket. Dont ask me why. You wouldnt think that made that much a difference....atleast I wouldnt. The bite was ON!:). The rest of the morning was like one chinese fire drill after another. Lots of tangling fish and lots of line cutting and jig re-tying. HA!:) And several really good fish caught too. All part of the fun when you wanna run 14 rods out of the back of the boat by yourself.:)
Water temps were back down from what I had previously seen at 62* down to 58.5* this morning. Even with the rains it was barely stained and not much trash at all on the water. Air temps were @ 50* and winds calm for the most part. NOT a bad day for fishing in my book!;)
Anyway, at 12:30 I decided it was about time to quit. Weather channel was forecasting rains to begin again at 5PM and I wanted to get the fish cleaned, spend some time with the dog, and get showered so I could enjoy the rest of the day in a warm house.:) Besides, I had thawed out a package of quail breasts I was planning on frying and I didnt want to mess that up staying on the water too long today.
When I clicked the 100th fish I quit fishing and began reeling up lines storing away the rods. Before I got all 14 rods up I had caught another 4 fish (only 103 on the clicker as I had put them away before catching that last fish on the last rod out). So I left fish biting today. It was a fun day and I really enjoyed it. Catching as many fish as I did today got me a few strange looks from a few on the lake today.:Rofl:Rofl

Great Day, I love the chaos, catching one fish here and there bores me. It’s fun when you have 4 fish on, 3 hung and the rest tangled. That’s when I cut and retie, turn around and try to do it again. That is some great info on small changes to get bit!! Even single poling you have to find how to make them react. Some days you have to try something stupid, and you just have to shake your head and laugh when it works. Thanks for sharing how you adapted on weight and speed. My philosophy is if it ain’t working try something different. I hate beating a dead horse!!!

Great report and information to remember. You had a fun morning that others only wish they could have. I can't manage 14 rods, drive the boat and net all in the same thought wave. :Rofl Glad you can. This makes me want to get the lone rods out and get on the water and try. I guess I should after this report and watching a fellow yesterday make numerous runs back and forth in a long bodied cove. I know he was catching because we were getting some tightlining in the same area. Thanks for the great report I'm excited and ready to go!
:biggrin

Great report Butch, that's a information filled report that should put anyone needing info on the fish. Congrats on a great day of catching and putting some very nice crappie in the boat.
