New reel ordered
After fishing my 1000 reels lately , especially the shallow spool Daiwa reels I ordered from Digitaka , I decide to upgrade a little and upsize in the same process.
I’ve ordered a Shimano ULTEGRA 21 ULTEGRA C2000SHG .
I realize it’s a high speed reel , but for drop shotting, I don’t think the reel speed will matter .
What I am hoping for is distance with 2# line , with the wider spool . Capacity is 130 meters of 3# line .
I’ve also read this model is a long stroke reel , that should also add some casting distance.
My most recent purchase of a Daiwa Legalis LT cast like a dream . But I had to put several hundred yards of 2# SOS backing before adding some 2# P-Line .
The diameter of the 2# SOS looks big compared to the 2# P-Line .
The main difference between the two lines is the distance I’m getting .
The new Ultegra will make its round on different rods before I decide where it might land .
Actually, none of my reels and rods are permanently paired .
I do know I’ll be leaning toward multi piece rods now , to make transport easier , since my next vehicle will probably be a Rav4 .

I have been eyeing the Ultegras as well. We went to Bass Pro yesterday and my son got a Nasci 1000. It is one of the new models and it is very nice. I purchased my first Legalis, and am very glad I did. I have always enjoyed my Regals, knowing they are the same reel family, didn't expect to be disappointed. All I need now is to find the Ultegra in stock somewhere in the 1000 size.
I have a hard time making my rod and reel pairings permanent as well. I seem to always be moving them around, not sure why but sometimes it seems to need to be done.

Gillchaser, you will like the Shimano Ultegra reel. I have one from 2017 1000 size standard spool model and it’s very smooth for a 5-bearing reel. Congrats on new purchase!
