Green River Lake Kentucky March, 2022

I'm going with a small group of my Church men's group to Green River Lake near Campbellsville, Kentucky the last week of March. Anyone familiar with the Lake, especially the end of the Lake near Campbellsville? Any leads to a great mess of Crappie will be appreciated. We'll be fishing with minnows and with jigs. We were on GRL several years ago on the other end of the lake. At that time it was very high and muddy and had logs floating in it from heavy rain just before we got there. We did run into some pretty good crappie on our last day in a tributary that was clearing up a bit.

Going to that end of Green, I'd have your crew launch at the State Campground ramp (it's free to launch). I'd fish around the island that sits between the campground and Emerald Isle Marina. Click on this and study the area for habitat placement : Green River Lake Fish Attractors - Google My Maps (bare in mind that many of these habitat placements may no longer be present, but the areas where they "were" is still a viable area to look)

OR ... if you don't have current reservations anywhere & are going to be there for more than a day, you might consider the floating cabins at the Green River Marina, located just North of the dam. Launch there and head left towards the campground/island/marina area.

Bare in mind, also, that this time of year the lake is normally "high" from Spring rains, and could potentially be flooded. Use this site to check on current levels : Louisville District Daily Lake Report .... and if you click on the highlighted number under the column "Todays Pool Feet" for Green, it will show you a chart of the past year's levels.

Also of note : the size limit is 9" & the creel limit is 20/person/day

Thanks a bunch, Crappiepappy! This is great information--I have a map of Green River Lake--I'll take a little time to jot the habitat locations on the map. BTW, we are staying at Emerald Isle Marina so will launch from there. Looks like there are plenty of possibly productive habitat sites surrounding the marina, including the island you mentioned.

The guys at Emerald Isle marina are usually pretty helpful the “news” going on. Fish should still be pre-spawn at that time. Unless we get pretty warm. As Pappy said lake could be blown out. And green can be tough if they’re pulling it down. Also as Pappy said find the state attractors, trust me don’t be afraid to search around the vicinity of said attractors as well. Be observant of other boats as well, they don’t sit on one area for no reason. Around the corner from Emerald Isle, the pikes/smiths ridge area, plenty of cover to be found. Be observant on points and mouth of coves. Good luck! Good chance you’ll see me down that way. You see this rig, that’ll be me. Don’t follow us though. We don’t catch fish lol.

Thanks, DoubleD! I'll keep an eye out for your rig--great looking outfit. We'll be in an older LakeFlite with a 20 hp Suzuki engine.

Well, we just returned from 3 days crappie fishing on Green River Lake in the Emerald Isle area. We hit the lake apparently at a tough time—from two boats we only scored two undersized crappie over the 3 days. The lake was at it’s lowest level, water temps hovered around 50 degrees, and severe weather surrounding us apparently gave them lockjaw. We saw plenty of fish at the 12 - 15 foot level—nothing shallower. Offered them jigs, jigs tipped with minnow, and crappie rigs with minnows. Nothing other than the two little ones. Oh well, we had great cameraderie and a fun time outside and on the water. Emerald Isle Marina is comfortable with really nice and helpful folks. We’ll return some time when fishing conditions improve. As the old adage notes: “That’s why they call it fishing and not catching.”
