Wateree Pelicans
I don't know what to think about a flock of about 20-30 white pelicans hanging out near clearwater on Lake Wateree.
Are there any ornithologist out there that have seen these before? May be climate change? From what I can tell, they are a Pacific/Central flyway bird.
How did they wind up in the piedmont of SC?

We get them pretty often this time of year inland in Texas. They may be migrating. Attachment 420874

I saw a brown pelican on the upper end of clark hill last year. It flew within 20 yds of the boat, so ir was a postive id.

Seen them every spring for the last 5 years on Wateree. Also been seeing them on Monticello in the spring. And below the fish lift Saint Stephen’s for as long as I can remember there.

Maybe they are just on a salt free diet for health reasons.
Sam, good to see you posting

Mama Pelican: why don't we ask for directions?
Papa Pelican: Relax baby I've got this.
Mama Pelican: I've never heard of Lugoff SC.
Papa Pelican: let me check the map.
Mama Pelican: lets just google it!

Hey Foxy Jig,
I didn't make it over to the Clear Water ramp, but the state park ramp was just about to dry to use. I launched just barely but taking up was a challenge! if it stays that low, Ill have to go to another ramp.
