I took advantage of some warm weather yesterday morning and went out to jig up some fish. Hit the ice before sunrise and hooked into something in the first but lost it just under the ice. Took me about 45 minutes before I landed my first fish, a pumpkinseed sunfish. A little while later I moved slightly shallower and found a school of small Crappie. I managed one keeper there but threw a lot of fish back.
I moved along laterally at that depth finding more small Crappie but eventually found some keepers. Due to breaking a line I grabbed another jig rod with a slightly different colored jig head on it and used the same plastic bait I had been using. The little bit of color change on the new jig head seemed to make the fish more aggressive. Some holes I would catch a fish on every drop for a bit with something different coming through the ice each time.
I had a lot of fun and brought home enough fish for a couple of good meals. Hope to make it out again soon.
