Glad to be here :)
Hi Everyone,
My name is Matt, I live in St. Augustine, Fl. and have recently abandoned salt water fishing, and am now returning to my roots of freshwater fishing. There is one big problem though, I hadn't freshwater fished in years, and was a catfish sort of angler at that.
I have never reeled in a spec/crappie, or even a largemouth bass for that matter to date. Bluegill, channel cats, bullhead cats, carp, and once a Walley are all that are on my fishing resume in fresh water in my youth.
I am wide open to any and all advice. I do not own a boat, sold the offshore rig a few years back. I picked up some lightweight gear and some crappie kits, rigs, floats and then some.
We just had a cold front go through northern Florida, so I am not sure when I should be fishing for crappie and at what water depth. Not having a functioning boat is a bummer, but I am open to all the possibilities of bank fishing.

Welcome Matt to cdc. Glad you’re here. Lots of friendly folks to help you get started. Try posting in the Florida section for more local help. Slab says the spawn is sort of going there now so probably a great time to find them near the bank. Good luck and if any questions just post and I’m sure someone can help.
