Another AG Eradicator?: a photo assessment

When it comes to describing some of these beautifully made ultralight rods out of Japan, sometimes words elude me, but you’ll just have to take my words for it ( especially folks haven’t already own one or 2 Eradicators) or as an author of a great review from The Angler magazine put it: “the attention to detail of this rod is so fine even Pininfarina, the designer of Ferrari …would be amazed.” It’s that beautiful in my opinion as well.
My assessment today is brief and short because I just received it this morning and besides look, as far as built quality, it’s as good as MADE IN JAPAN rod, comparing to my Nissin Ares 5-9( a mid-range) rod. The Abu has the upper hand when it comes to look and refinement, I’m a sucker for glossy butt section of the rod. Other than that I believe both rods blank characteristics are pretty similar with the Eradicator a bit softer in action than the Ares Blue Porter (last photo shows finer taper of Abu rod) which would make it even more an excellent panfish rod. Congratulations on the new rod! I’ll agree with your assessment, beautiful craftsmanship.
I just got back from checking mine out. Only caught one, but it seemed like an automatic hook set.

Very nice ! I have the 6'7" and 6'9", I might have to add a 5'10". They really are nice rods that flex with small fish but have some reserve power in the lower end for the bigger catches. Enjoy the new rod !

Fly2T, these rods are so well engineered that even upon look you would know it will have different feel (action) to it before you need to read specs by just looking at its taper from butt to tip. And sure enough even though both designated as EX-F action I knew right away the Abu gonna be softer rod and it’s lower lure weight and line rating suggests that.

Beautiful rods for sure. Glad to hear the Abu is slower...as it should be due to it being the hybrid rod vs the aji rod. The Abu TAF blanks are fantastic. The same blank material is used in the Diplomat Extreme rods of which I own the 62 model...it is a very unique rod. My 510 has been sitting in Sydney for the past 4 days waiting on a rode...LOL.

That Ares is no slouch in the looks department. I stuck about 20 gills yesterday with my 7.6 Eradicator using the Greenie Weenie Trout Magnet under a Trout Magnet float fishing tight to the bank in some chocolate soup water. Even though it has the Light action rating the soft blank makes for a fun ride and gets a decent bend from a 5-6in gill. Congratulations on the new stick, what reel and line is going to mount up on it?

StM2567, 5 or 6 inch bluegills will no doubt be a hoot to catch with this feather of a rod the Eradicator is. And as you probably already know, finding a reel in the aesthetic department to match such a rod is not easy. On the other hand I have couple reels that will pair well with it or any high quality rods (JDM or domestic) for that matter and one of them is the 2020 newly acquired Shimano Twin Power c2000s strung in 3lb (will be replaced with 2.3 esther soon). Its the lightest reel in my staple and hopefully will balance well. But if Shimano make the Sephia in 1000 size I think that is the target reel i have in mind for this stunning rod. Cheers!

The Shimano Twinpower will be a smooth operator on the new stick. Hope to see some action shots soon.
