New boat carpet...Question?

Talked to Ranger today about getting new carpet for my 2003 Ranger Reata 210VS. They are telling me I need 29-30 SQUARE YARDS of carpet for my boat?!?! There is no way this is correct right??

Dimensions:
*Everything has been rounded UP
*I have no vertical applications other than the 2" of vertical on the lids; everything is flat laid carpet surface area.
*Not replacing carpet in any of the lockers, it looks great.
Front Deck ~6x7
Center Floor ~6x7
Back Deck ~6x4
Since the carpet comes in a 7' roll I just figured I need ~18 linear feet; I will add another 5' to be safe, so I figured 23 linear feet. 23 x 7 = 161 square feet / 9 = 17.8 square yards. Heck, I would order 20 yards and still feel okay about it! Based on what their part folks say, their estimates would be about 40 linear feet of 7' wide carpet for my boat, no stinkin' way!

I understand there is a way to lay the carpet so the pile all goes the same directions, but I can't figure out why they would tell me I need this much. Talked to two different people.....

I any of you have done this before, I would love to hear about how much you used or if I am missing something.

Their installer needs new carpet on his boat and wanted to use your "excess". :Rofl
I'm with you, their estimate seems awfully high.

I can tell you this, when I did my 1st boat ( 17’ bass tracker ) I ordered 20’ thinking it was enough! I ended up having to order another 10’ to finish it up! I know the guy that did mine personally! I saw what was left to do as well! The grain/pile is what makes it hard!
Your situation may be different, but it’s certainly possible that it will take more then you think!

Have you got carpeted compartments? That adds some. I just read an article on bass resource where the individual posted he needed more than just length by width.

I had to go back and get more when I redid the 18' Stratos. Only had 15' linear feet of carpet inside. Ended up using around 25 linear feet . No vertical carpet and not carpet at the seat well

Ended up ordering 30’. It’s just surfaces, all the compartments are good. I measured the whole boat again and that amount should leave me about 10’ for overages. We’ll see I suppose.

I didn't redo the compartments either. What used so much for me was the compartment lids. When you cover the deck the part that is left over from where the lid would be is too small to cover the lid and turn down the edges. The lid has to be match up from a new piece. The front deck almost took twice the carpet for that reason

There's the difference. The factory put carpet in the lockers. Did you ask them to exclude it from the dimensions?


The factory also covers the entire deck and cuts out the openings oversized so the carpet can wrap around. Then cuts new carpet for the lids. It is also oversized so it can wrap around.
The locker deck is more than likely fully carpeted, even areas you can't see.

It depends if you want all the carpet running in the same direction , some people dont care I have done jon boats before and notice what I did wrong trying to save carpet (just saying)
