56 is the newest........the pics i've seen from the 56 are pretty dang good......IMO if you gonna buy a new transducer, might as well go with the newest one BUT the 54 can be found pretty cheap on line from members that dont need them.......
The GT56 UHD is the newer of the two. I believe the 56 is better for side imaging.
I bought a used boat (11 mo.) that has a live scope transducer and a transducer on the trolling motor . Both are connected to a 9 inch Garmin UHD. Would the lesser priced unit be ok to unhook from unit now and put on a new one of the same size . What I am asking will the processer be the same on the uhd models that come with a 54 or 56 transducer ?
