Pouring And Painting Jigs, Timing

This may seem like an odd thing to ask, but when you pour and paint jig heads, how long do you wait between pouring and painting your jig heads? The reason I ask is because I usually do it all in one process. It’s usually less than 20 heads at the time and so I pour them and paint them right away, and haven’t been happy with he paint job. Too many odd ball colors. But today I painted some heads that I poured yesterday and they came out great. I’m wondering if waiting a day until the poured heads had cooled off completely has anything to do with the painting results?

Depends on what I’m doing and how much time I have. Usually I pour up batches of heads to paint later. Some months later. I have poured and then painted immediately. Can’t tell a difference between painting now or later.

My set up is small and causes delays between pour and paint. I too have jigs that were painted months after initial pour. One thing I have found is to not delay baking over a day or two as humidity can cause an orange peal effect on my paint smoothness. Temp of preheating of jigs and timing to paint seems to be the key factor in getting the smoothness I like.
