I am going to pull cranks with 2 oz sinkers for the first time this year. It will just be simple trolling with 8-9 ft rods. I have some med power and some med heavy but not sure which way to go. What power do you guys troll with?

pulling with that much weight id use med/heavy. i generally dont use weight pulling but i push with 3oz. my rods for that are 14' wally marshal troll techs med/heavy
Depends on what cranks you're pulling and how deep. 2 oz may be a little heavy- I use 1.5 oz to get to 18-20'. If you do use 2oz, go with med heavy if you are using 300 series Bandits or similar. :twocents
Sometimes 300 bandits but mostly shallow flicker shads is what I pull.

If you put 40’ of line in the water with 10lb yellow pro slick power pro braid,,my PICO’s will be running about 12’ deep at a speed of 1.4 to 1.6 mph. Put out 60 ft of line and they will run about 15’ down. PICO’s will run deeper than bandits and arkies. I don’t use weights seldom ever trolling and if I do,,I will use a Offshore Snap weight about 3’ above the crank to keep from running so much line out. Also I will use the Precision Trolling App.
If I am using 12’ rods to troll with,,,then I figure the amount of line in the rod…12’. And if from the rod tip with the tip foot above the water,,,there is maybe another 5’ of line to where the line finAlly enters the water,,add that to the 12’ of the rod..figure 40’ more line,,,my line counter should read 57’ of line out if you want to get technical. And sometimes it’s pretty accurate as sometimes I find myself in 12’ of water and my PICO will be dragging the bottom so it’s time for me to reel some line in to get it to the depth I need to be running at.
I think it was Bama S in the Alabama forum a few years ago posted, he was trolling bandit 200’s or square bill cranks with his rods in his holders straight out the side of the boat so the rod tips were a foot above the water and had only let out 5’—6’ of line from his rod tip out running along the bank side right next to flooded timber as close as you can run the bait and bushes along the bank in shallow water using 12’ or longer rods…catching big crappie spawning in 2’ to 4’ or 5’ deep water. Heck of a technic fishing super shallow water. I have trolled this way in the springtime during spawn if you can catch a lake high from spring rains flooding flat grass areas, timber and bushes. Square bill crankbaits like PICO is making works perfectly as I dug out a bunch of square bill Bagleys out of one of my Bass boxes from years ago and first used them. This is another fishing technic in spring time to consider when trolling.
