Got rid of the skunk

I went back to the town pond this afternoon.
Got there around 3:30 and fished until the clouds rolled in after five and the cool breeze on the back of my neck made it too cold for this old man :) . Even though the temp was in the mid fifties.
I changed my rod and reel combo to a 6’ St Croix Panfish ULF paired with my old Shimano Stradic 1000 FJ , spooled with 4# Original P-Line .
I fished the mini drop shot rig , but instead of a 1/80th woolybooger jig , I used one of my unweighted Panfish flies that resembles a tiny spider .
It didn’t take but about 4-5 casts to get rid of the skunk .
Wound up catching four gills , and one small LM about 10-11” .
I’m really enjoying fishing the drop shot .
The concentration needed and the anticipation of the thump , is addictive.

That one actually came out of the water when hooked .
And was more yellow than the picture shows .
One of the things I enjoy about panfish , is the different colors and patterns they can be .

Those will put some bend into a UL rod, thanks for sharing.

Thought some you guys would like to see my honey hole .
This is where I fish 90% of the time at the pond , this time of the year .
The track walkers bridge to my left , the posts to the old bridge are on my right .
Two factors make this attractive to the big gills .
One , it’s some of the deepest water in the pond with the most structure .
And two , kids stand on the bridge and feed the ducks ( and fish ) pelletized food their parents pay a quarter for a kid’s handful .

That’s definitely a sweet spot! Shade, food and cover all in one place. Some nice fish. You better get it before this next front comes through and shuts things down for the weekend. Again.
