Fly Tying desks photo

I saw this fly tying desk today on You Tube (Picture 1) but when I went to price that desk I found the prices were way out of my reach. I decided to do the best I could with materials around my house (picture 2) and I mounted my rotary vise to it and tied some more Marabou jigs today. It works for me and just cost me about 35 minutes of work time to make it. I am not a carpenter. Just did my best. Rotary vise works well there. What do you think? Do any of you want to share photos of your home made tying desks to give us all ideas?

Putting the word “fly” in front of any other word (rod, reel, line) increases the price. ;)

I just power sawed the pieces. Base is 24"x16". Back is a 2x4. Sides are from 2x6. Front lip is from a 1x2.

I drilled various size holes in the back 2x4 and the side 2x6 pieces for the bobbins etc. Only drill no more than 3 or 4 inches deep. Nail the 1x2 lip to the front and then turn the piece upside down. . Then it is just a matter of screwing the back and sides to the bottom. Turn it back upside down and fill the holes with your tools.

That fancy insert that holds the head cements etc was something I found at a thrift store and cut to fit the inside area of my tying desk. The trash cup is just sitting there as a place to put thread scraps, feathers and chenille scraps. When full I just empty it in the trash.

Yours is neat .
I use a folding table I bought from Sams . Got stuff piled all over it . Vise in the middle .
