Back in the day, there was an add in a magizine where you got two billed crank baits painted like a rainbow trout for like $5.oo. Well, right before I went in the service, 1977 era, I sent for them and was pleasantly surprised to actually get them when I got home after basic and AIT training.... They arrived while I was gone. I didn't get a chance to use them for several years. Anyway I broke them out at a lake that had 0 trout in it of any kind, and danged if a nice 3lb bass didn't hit it. Then, a few years later, while in Germany I went to the Heidelburg Rod and Gun, where they had a natural cold water spring fed lake, that was stocked with trout a couple times a year, I tried a trout colored roostertail spinner and had a limit in less than 1/2 hr...
So I'm thinking, trout will eat trout fry...

I like them a lot. Kind of like a deceiver fly. I would fish them for sure.

Yep, I took fisheries biology in college and then dropped it as they study stuff way over my head, But any way I learned all fish will eat there young, The males hang around the nest to protect it until the fry start to swim and then they all disperse. The male keeps the females from coming back to the nest to feed. The females are hungry and tired after spawn and just want an easy meal by nature. Mother nature works in mysterious ways to protect the young. So match the hatch is a great way to capitalize no matter if trout, crappie or any thing else spawns, match the hatch.
