bamboo cane pole ferrule help

I want to make some bamboo cane poles. I have been looking and researching trying to determine the ferrules I need for the sections and I can't figure it out. I have tried contacting mud hole and 2 other places to avail so I figured I'd ask the experts.

That is the top end (left) and bottom end of 2 sections for one pole. The diameter is 3/4 inch. I know I will need to sand down the end with the node, which is the bottom, to make the ferrule fit. I think once y'all help me with this first one I can figure the others out pretty easy. The numerous videos I have watched didn't cover what I needed to help me understand what size ferrule to get.

I did find that the way I cut them is supposed to be correct but if it isn't please let me know. I want to still make this one because I have them and they are dry and want to use it next spring.

Great project. I’m wondering what kind of ferrule you’re thinking of using? Most I’ve seen were on store bought cane poles and they were metal. My thought is that a hardwood dowel could be fashioned to go inside each end and a winding put on the outside to keep them from splitting under stress. I’ll be watching to see what you come up with.

I had thought about the dowel inside and it might be the best way to go. I was thinking metal ones but some nice wrapping on the ends and inserted might be a better choice for aesthetics, durability and maybe marketability down the road.

Interesting. Those metal ferrule cane poles bring back a lot of memories.
