Jig rehab
I have a couple hundred jigs with some surface rust on the hook shank. I'm thinking of using a Dremel to remove the rust. What can I put on the hook to prevent it from rusting again? does this sound like a doable project or should I just pitch the jigs?

I’d just fish them or chunk them. Sounds like a whole lot of work sanding and then coating with something.

I bought the jigs on an auction. Couldn't see the rust in the pics. Trying to make them usable/saleable. I have plenty of time to work on them.

Got a pic? If I were to clean it would be some type of wire brush be it one on a handle or a wheel attached to rotary tool or drill.
-
Thanks. No pic, I'm using a borrowed computer. Any suggestion on something to dip the hook in or paint it with? Would nail polish work? I want to clean them up and then tie simple marabou jigs.

They sell a product called CLR. Stands for calcium. lime amd rust remover. It MIGHT do something. You would soak them in it. Not sure it would even work,
-
They make a spray on rust preventative. I want to say one name is linebacker. For that matter petroleum jelly wiped on the hook should seal it enough to prevent it from rusting again

Thanks all. Guess I will give it a go soon and report back. Appreciate your feedback.

If it is just surface rust I would fish them. Takes a pretty heavy rust to weaken the hook and crappy don't care if they are a little rusty.

:hesaid Unless I knew for sure I was planning on selling them I wouldn't even worry about them. Not sure how many you bought but I would make sure they were dry and stored better which you probably already have done.
