Hey all,
I am thinking about making a trip to Green River Lake the last week of March. I’m just looking to catch a few eater sized crappie (I don’t keep many) and maybe do a little bass fishing. I’m thinking of staying at Holmes Bend. Is it worth a try at that time of year? It’s an 8 hour drive for me so any input is greatly appreciated.

Depending on water level, if normal pool and not flood stage, the early crappie spawn should be starting. Normally good crappie fishing. And The GetAway is a really nice cabin and convenient to Holmes Bend Marina. And The GetAway owner is a top notch crappie guide as well.
The Getaway is 2 miles from Holmes bend ramp. Plenty of parking and plugs for charging your boat. Two bedrooms with a twin and full size bed in each room.

What type/method of Crappie fishing are you set up to do and/or prefer to do ??
I'm assuming this is more than just a one day trip ... so how long are you staying ??
I'd recommend staying at The Getaway ( https://www.crappie.com/crappie/-mem...22568-getaway/ ) as it is cheaper than the Holmes Bend cabins/rooms. It's only 2mi up the road from Holmes Bend Marina & the COE Launch Ramp.
Just some FYI's :
Green River Lake Crappie limits - 9" size limit ... 20/day/person --- Bass limits - 12" size limit ... 6/day/person
COE Ramp fee - $5/day (credit/debit card only machine at top of ramp)
Covered slip at marina - $25 per day/night (Getaway & HB cabins all have elec. hookups)
Minnows can be purchased at Green River Bait & Grocery

I'm likely to stay 3 nights, so hopefully 2 full days on the water plus few bonus hours. I'm guessing about half that time will be spent on crappies but if they are biting good it will likely be more.
I prefer to cover water by pitching light jigs around cover. I will sometimes use a float/minnow once I find them if they won't take the jigs. I've never spider-rigged and don't really care to invest in the equipment. I know it is efficient but I'm not looking to catch a limit anyways.

OK ... in that case I hope you have good electronics (like SI or LS), because there's very little exposed cover on Green.
Keep your eye on this site : Louisville District Daily Lake Report ... in the weeks ahead of your trip. Green is notorious for flooding around that time. :banghead Click on the blue highlighted number under "Today's Pool Feet" and you'll get a chart showing the lake levels for the past year.
Thanks for the heads up. I am comfortable finding and fishing submerged cover. I am worried about the flooding. That link looks to be a valuable resource.
