Best side imaging unit?

I was at Bass Pro today looking at a FF for side imaging only. The man at the counter said Lowrance carbon had the best. I ask him if the Garmin was as good as the HB he said the Lowrance carbon was better than either. I have had Lowrance for year and heard about there bad customer service but I have had very good CS in the past. Would like some input.

Something the clerk didn’t mention is that Carbon comes with the AI 3&1 transducer ...

Some say the optional Structure Scan 3D (module and xducer) with Carbon has better SI than the AI 3&1 xducer ...

Some say Structure Scan 3D is really close in comparison to Humminbird MEGA imaging ...

Some say the opposite ...

Very hard to beat the quality of the images on HB and their customer service is generally outstanding!:twocents

I run garmin for livescope but when doing research for fish finders if you’re only interested in SI and high quality images….. gonna be hard to beat the hummingbird. :twocents

If the use is for SI and wanting the best available, then my answer would be to research the humminbird graphs. I wouldn’t swap my helix units if you paid for it. I’m able to see shad balls and big schools of crappie a good distance from the boat that allows me to mark and pursue. The biggest contributor for SI will be the screen size so whichever way you decide, get the biggest your budget can handle. I used 5”, 7”, 10” and 12” helix graphs and I wouldn’t go any smaller than 10”. Bigger screen = bigger marks! Just my .02 and some days it’s not worth that.

Screen size is a must. Buy as big as you can

The images on my cousin's hummingbird blow away the images on my Garmin Echomap. Its not even close.

I have a Garmin ultra unit and a Humminbird Mega SI and although Garmin has come a long way with there side imaging the Bird still looks a bit better to my eye.
