Lake Keowee report 11/20/2021
I spent the afternoon on Friday working on my steering. After disconnecting the cable from the motor I was relieved to discover the cable and helm were OK. That left the tilt tube as the culprit. I soaked it with WD40 and cleaned it out real good, removing a lot of dried up grease and dirt. I re-greased it all and got it all back together and with no parts leftover :HandsClapping. Steering in the garage was nice and smooth, both left and right. Had to get it on the water for the true test though.
Hit the ramp at 8:00am and 37° with more NE wind than I was expecting. I headed up Cane Creek and the steering was better than brand new! First time in a long time I was able to make easy left turns. Water temp was down 3° since Thursday, now hanging around 60. I was looking for docks on the edge of the channel and then narrowing those down to docks that housed fishing boats. Most docks on Keowee are not owned by fishermen. There are no brushpiles, no lights and most times no fish. Once I found what I was looking for I wasn't disappointed. Livescope showed a nice load of crappie under the dock which would give me some much needed practice on my dock shooting. I was able to fire my jig into the right spot enough to get my personal limit of 10. All were about 12" and fat. It was a good morning.
Next trip set for Wednesday AM at Hartwell.
