So I called and said ok , we have about 2 hours ,lets make it not sink if we can .:dono
They had it held up with chain hoists when we got there , the old style back when docks often have big blocks of styrofoam under them as floatation , it will deteriorate after a long time . This old dock belonged to the military back in day ,she is in need of repair in several areas .
So periodically it sinks some and has been since I started to visit it about 8 months ago . The owner bought 100 blue plastic barrels and is trying to put them under the dock after removing the stro blocks "carefully" .
First few times it went poorly , to many barrels on the end off to the outside and it sits up like way to high , the pump they used had about aquarium gpm volume and it took most of the day to set 4 .
So H and I took a high volume pump we have as a spare from work over there and we got after it for a bit with the owner . The removal of the decking and styrofoam took a while and the way to set them was a 3 heads are better than one type of deal as well .
The first attempts taught us what would and for sure what wouldn't work . After a bit of thought and calculating and trial and error we had us a plan !
Once we got rolling with a barrel leash and the water in and water out program in full tilt it went rather quickly . The last of 4 we set that afternoon went in place and ready in under 15 minutes ! :highfive
The owner asked if there was a way he could "rent" the pump , I said no sir , but you can use it and if you lose it , you owe me $1,200.00 US ......:Rofl
he will be also replacing all the wood and it will be a chore for sure .
Here is the down side , the next door neighbor is at the same time tearing out a an old all wood dock sitting on telephone poles , so with that much disturbance in such a short time ......the ketchn of fish has dropped to about nada .......:banghead
Not much KABOOM there is now the word ....rotfl
We hit the dock the next day for grins to ketch a few and it was terrible slow and we almost got skunked , H lost a big one and ketched nada and I managed 3 small crappie and a bluegill ........:banghead:banghead
sometimes we all have to sacrifice a bit and as good as that spot is/was , it seems for a while it will be out of sorts in the ketchn dept. for a bit as it is under construction , Water that shallow won't lilely hold much with that much activity , hope we get it ready before the spawn , it rocked as good as it gets last spring , I guess only time will tell , stay tuned for .....
more episodes of "this old dock" to come .....:Rofl :cheers2
