Kayak Trip Report, Limestone Bay/Creek

I returned to Limestone today keeping 14 and returning 9 that were over 12 inches. Numerous catfish, bass, gills and short Crappie were also returned. It was a much slower day than Friday, but I found a few. Fish were caught on jig and bobber and single pole on isolated cover. I used a 1/16oz White Marabou jig with both. The water is up a few inches and is 68 degrees in the current, but 72 degrees in the areas out of the current.

I had the pleasure of sharing Limestone with another kayak angler from the forum. Beautiful day!

Looks like the rain will probably ruin my plans for Friday. If it’s not a mud hole I may go anyway. Been looking forward to going back there since spring.

Great seeing and talking to you yesterday. I have to up my game on the single pole jigging. He fished behind me and caught 3 14 inch plus fish single pole. Saw my first gator on the way back to the first pit.

I had an advantage, a tree branch on the bottom. I marked it with my chart plotter a couple years ago during low water over the winter draw down.

I make it look easy sometimes, but I have several years of cumulative knowledge in areas like Limestone where I fish regularly.

By the way the cooling water brings the baitfish and Crappie into the Northern areas of Limestone. High water for a couple weeks is usually the final key to make it all work. When TVA finally catches up with the rainfall and drops the lake back down there will be lots of bait and Crappie feeding, but only two or three foot of water left with 2/3 of that area shallower than 18 inches. That will get us into the fun and easy few weeks of catching hundreds of fish a day. There are a few anglers here on the forum that have experienced what I'm talking about. Where you anchor in the pits and cast a small spinner or a jig and bobber and catch a Crappie every other cast for half a day. :biggrin

The one trip I went with him I did a little bit of fishing and a whole lot of watching. Helped me as a fisherman in a lot of ways.
