New paints

I ordered some new paints and painted some 1/16 and 1/8 Diner Shiner heads yesterday. These new colors pop so the crappie should have no problem seeing these. I used four colors to paint these. The base coat on these is yellow chartreuse, then I brush tap Flame Red or Candy Orange to the top and bottom, dip into the Bold Gill or Candy Green and then into the silver crinkle. The more you do the easier it gets. I've watched videos of how others paint heads and my way is different. I don't dip the heated head into the paint but shake the head back and forth across the top of the paint before removing and going to the next color. The head isn't submerged in the paint but skimmed across the top and the shake removes the excess paint which is important when using several colors on a jig. It can get messy sometimes if there is too much paint in the jar so I like smaller jars and like them about 75% full. I call it the "Jungle Shake".

That’s where a fluid bed comes into play. Air introduced to paint allows you to put the slightest amount of paint on head. Excellent way of thinking outside the box with just skimming the top of paint though!
