I caught this in "86" in small farm pond in KY I found while coon hunting. Found in box this weekend where I had packed away. Buddy says it's some type of hybrid, wondering if anyone might know if regular bluegill or a hybrid. It's weathered some at 36yrs. Thanks.
Hard to tell from a painted mount. Do you happen to have a picture of it when you caught it ??

I was bass fishing a little creek small enough you could cast to the other bank. I tossed a full size spinner bait to the other bank and got hit like a ton of bricks. I reeled it in expecting a good size bass. No dice it was a good size Bluegill that had inhaled that spinnerbait. I unhooked it looked at it disappointed it wasn't a bass and tossed it back in. No measurements and no weight no photos. It was the biggest bluegill I had caught before or since. I regret thowing it back. I hope it remembers me from time to time like I remember it. :biggrin
If it's painted close to how it actually looked when caught, then I'd think it was just a regular Bluegill (genetically). Even so, it's a wall worthy mount to be proud of :ThumbsUp

Looks like a redear that your taxidermist took some liberties with. Redear are much harder to paint than bluegill.
