First Post IDA Sac-a-lait from the Jourdan River

Well as far as Hurricanes go Hancock County has had it's share lately. The water is down, looking fishable, the NIP tide doesn't till Wednesday I decided to give the Jourdan a try this morning. I've been working in the back of Diamondhead for the last 4 days looking at the water. Wednesday is forecast 70% rain. "Bird in the Hand" decision, go fishing today and go again if Wednesday improves. Didn't have a bad day much to my surprise until the "Boaters" got out on the water. 13 in the box, 5 Hammers for river fish the balance tacos. First post Hurricane IDA trip.

I never been to the Mississippi, so maybe you might enlighten me as to what that means.

Mississippi is "Famous" for Crappie fishing the northern lakes, Grenada - Sardis - Enid, just to name a few but the entire state is full of Crappie. On the Mississippi Gulf Coast all the rivers feeding into the Gulf have lots of Crappie. They're not as big living in a "Flowing Estuary" it's all Tidal waters. Now the Crappie are the sweetest of all to eat. They never build up the Fat & Oils from eating balls of shad their entire lives. Also they have to swim almost all the time. Fishing for Crappie in the Rivers is different from Lakes, tidal Rivers flows in 2 directions, depending on flow direction all the Crappie will position themselves on the same side of the tree top. You rarely see Crappie over a tree top, they will be on one side or the other depending on how big a tide that day. Hurricane IDA's storm surge here was 7ft on top of the tide and we got 9-12 inches of rain so the Crappie had a rough couple of days along with us. To see them working their way back up river this quickly is great.
