Motor help
Need some info. I have 95 40hp 4cyl twin carb Mariner on my boat. It runs good on muffs. In the water it will barely go and motor sounds bogged down. Cleaned carbs. Telltale is little weak so know it could use a water pump but motor not hot. Put new plugs in that weren’t exact match real close. Any ideas.

Hey Lugnutzz,
Just some suggestions . Might try buying the exact plugs for starters. Next with a compression gauge measure each cylinder one at a time. A weak telltale could possibly indicate it overheated sometime in the past and has lost compression on a cylinder. This is two possible ideas to give you an idea of what is going on.

Check fuel supply... on muffs there is no load so not much fuel is needed... if the fuel pump isn’t putting out enough it will starve it. Or if the inside of the fuel line is breaking down

Been down with COVID and haven’t been out to lake. I did find a linkage that got knocked off but not sure if that was it or not. I have blown everything out and gas has been drained. It was pretty bad and had little to no smell to it.
On the mend though and ready to get out of house and go places. Didn’t feel bad but was running fever and went to dr to get shot to knock it out before it got bad. Tested positive for COVID and went got the BAM infusion. Been fine other some chest congestion. Never lost taste or smell.

I hear the infusion has helped a lot of folks... glad to hear you have been handling it well!

Took boy out today and it ran good. The linkage between the carb and gear shift on side of engine kept popping out of carb end. I think this was problem all along. Just glad I didn’t it over board.

I have been to the point of wanting to unclamp one and give it a nudge and wait for the bubbles

Glad it was a easy fix
