Rod repair suggestions

For me to fix a rod, I must have an attachment to it such as years of service and hundreds of fish caught on it. I own over 25 rods of different actions and lengths, but when I find a rod that casts certain size lures a distance, sets the hook at that distance and feels balanced in the hand, I hate it when it breaks - especially if it has been discontinued. Even more is when really large fish are fought and it doesn't snap!

So here's a ways to repair a rod that doesn't have a crack going along the side of the blank - i.e. a clean break. (Note: if the crack isn't long, hacksaw the area off the blank and do the repair.)

1. find a nail that's thick enough to fit snugly into both ends.
2. use a glue or epoxy in the holes, put the nail into both blanks and let the glue dry.
Just be sure the guides are aligned.
3. in the above photo I used Gorilla Tape to wrap the seam where the edges meet once the glue has dried and then electric zip ties to secure it on either side of the union.

I've already caught fish on this 6' light action rod - one a 1.5 lb bass that bent the rod diving under the boat.

The other repair that is easy to make is guide replacement or reposition. The rod in the example had a guide that was too far from the reel and I repositioned it closer.
method:
1. to remove a guide from a rod, I hold a lighter flame under the wrap - not the rod blank - until I can pull it out with pliers.
2. use Super Glue to attach the guide to the reel along with the same zip ties above.
3. once dry, add more glue to the blank and wrap braid fishing line around it between the plastic ties.

There's no way the line guide with fail. Here's what it looks like:

Rod tip guides are the easiest to attach and guides in general can be bought on line or taken from rods you don't value. (BTW: don't throw rods away if you might need guides).

Again, these recommendations are for rods you really value or those that cost a bunch and that you hate to dump.
