Deep v or bass boat

Alright crappie gurus, I am getting ready to semi retire. Right now I am lucky to fish 15 times a year out of a ranger 361v with a 175. Very stable but likes gas. I plan on doubling or tripling my trips when retired. Was thinking about getting a crest liner fish hawk or similar v hull or maybe a mod v like a tracker with a smaller motor. I do not troll now but might troll for walleyes in future but my first love is single pole fishing. Would like to also start dock shooting. Anybody been down the same road or know someone that has I would appreciate any advice.

I have the 1750 fish hawk and love it. Ive fished out of fiberglass bass boats, aluminum bass boats and aluminum deep v. I prefer the deep V.

You will appreciate a deep V even more as you get older.

well i have a 14ft smokercraft big fisherman, and i have be looking at some mod v flat bottom type boats, i do like the Allweld that richard gene fishes out of, please tell me why deep v are preferred as we get older, maybe can save me some money LOL i sort of like that the front casting platform has more room over the v boat

The deep v should have a softer ride in rougher water. Get a little chop on the lake and a flat bottom boat will beat you to death at speed.

I feel in love with the Deep V’s years ago fishing with friends up north for walleye and purchased a Lund 17’ Pro V for my Southern waters. It’s feels more secure sitting down in the boat, it handles big and choppy water well, it gives me a place to put my feet up on the gunrail, and my truck doesn’t know it’s behind it sometimes.
Cons are that it’s lighter than glass so it gets wind blown more.
I’d get in someone’s deep v and get a first hand impression & opinion.

Deep V is what I have had for a good many years now and it's a Lund that was designed for crappie fishing. I feel for older people the Deep V is a much safer boat and takes the rough water well. Be sure to take a look a Lund, maybe the 18' or 20'? I have the 17' and is fine, but the 18' and 20' have a huge amount of room in them!

Deep V for me as well. Most the guys in my Crappie club has mod v or bass boats. We all fish the same. The difference between boat bottoms really shows during rougher weather, seas. Bass boats, flat bottoms, mod v all work great. However once you get decent waves on the water they get beat up bad. To the point they don't want to go out, or change the rules so they can trailer to a ramp closer to their fishing spot. In my Deep V, it doesn't matter. Hammer down and go. With a windshield and Bimini top I don't get wet on the travel, have shade on hot days, and a place for the misses to relax while I fish. Next upgrade would be a pontoon. Real hard to beat a deep v with windshield and Bimini top for comfort.
I looked at teh FishHawk series, nice boats. Ended up with an Alumacraft Competitor.
The further South you go, the more flat bottoms, mod v boats you see. Doesn't make them better, just more preferred. Further north you go or bigger bodies of water you fish, the more Deep V you will see. They handle the elements better.

It's rare to see anything deep v boats up here in Minni-Sota land. I've fished out of lots of them from 14-16 foot little red Lunds to 17-20 foot bigger wider rigs.I've fished out of Crestliner fish hawks, Alumacrafts Trophys, Lund Tyees and my current boat a 2005 Lund Fisherman 20 foot...Dad always said he liked to fish from inside the boat,not sitting on top of the boat....I tend to agree.

Dock shooting is easier with the low deck that you have now. That said for trolling a mod-v or deep-v is better.
