So I broke my fishing rod about a week ago. Long story short, the store took it back and replaced it, however, the new rod makes a slight squeak when I cast. I'm a bit worried the braid line is rubbing against something that might be worn down over time. Has anyone had experience with a fishing rod that squeaks?

I would think that if the braid is rubbing hard enough against part of the rod to squeak that it would not cast very far at all with typical crappie jig weights. I would get the sound is coming from the reel seat / reel junction or the handle connection to the rod
somewhere in the handle is my guess , reel seat or possibly something in the transitional area of the rod blank to handle....
i worried for years about a rod that " crackled " on hook set and a WAY past significant striper run , it bent the rod so bad it actually started making a cracking noise .
Some 30 years later the rod and reel still work great and I recently donated it to a friend for a catfish rod .
Some reels just dont fit in the reel seat very well. On the ones with plastic feet and not veey expensive I have been known the shape them with a file to get a more firm fit
The reel didn't shake around when I tried putting a bit of pressure on it. The spool did shake a bit, maybe it wasn't attached all the way, I'll try to fix it and see if it solves the problem. As a side note, it's not actually a crappie rod, I posted it in the wrong section. It's a saltwater rod.Quote:

In that case you may be getting noise off the braid if you are using enough weight. I can remember hearing line noise ( even with mono) on my saltwater spinning gear. May be line noise of the braid coming off the spool or when it is collected by the first guide. A saltwater rig certainly added to the possibilities
I'm not actually sure. It was a combo, so I haven't taken it apart. I can check later though. thanks for all the help and suggestions. It sounds like it's either the reel, or even the weight itself when it's traveling through the air. The sound is really only there for 1/2 a second or so, so I don't think it's line noiseQuote:

Considering that it sounds like a tough rod for fighting tough fish. I don't believe you have anything to worry about
