Pre bluetooth i-pilot spot lock settings?

I fished in a friends boat for stripers this weekend. We needed to set the spot lock to stay on the school while busy catching, unhooking, rebaiting, etc.
During that time, his spot lock was acting "wild" for a lack of a better description. It would turn on half wide open at times turning the boat this way and that to the point where I gave up on it and controlled it manually. He said it has always been like that since new. (I bet the accuracy of his is almost 20 feet)
My boat has a newer BT version and I adjusted the remote control to make it super accurate. His does not have any adjustment on the remote that I can find. Can a pre-BT model be adjusted? If so how? If not, how do you fix it?

Must be older unit.
Buddy of mine has 2015 model.
He had to order a new Bluetooth chip for his.
He installed it himself and believe me, if he did it, anybody can. Lol
My 2021 Ultrex moves 2-3 ft at most with 20mph wind.
I think it cost him around 300 bucks and he already had a Bluetooth puck.
That will cost extra if your friend doesn’t have one.
