Do you guys just let the lights down over the side of your boat.
Or
Do you attach the light to a pole to get it a little further away from the boat. Before the light enters into the water?
If you use a pole how long and why?
My longest rod is only 7ft if that makes a difference. I will also be in about 20fow or less. With two 1000 lumen submersible green lights.

I just hang it over the side of the boat. I only put it down about a foot or so, just so the boat doesn't block it from lighting up the water on the other side of the boat.

I use a telescopic paint roller pole and put it as far away from the boat as I can....i put my light. about 4 ft deep.

Sure is the time of year to throw out a light and beat the heat. I plan of do that very thing when I get a day off with favorable weather.
Thanks for the information... My wife is not a night person. She made it from sun down to sun up. She loved it! We didn't hammer them but we caught our fair share. We definitely learned a lot for the first time fishing with the lights! I did see this one huge crappie come up from the depths and engulfed fry. I was just like shark week! LoL
Took the wife out on a night trip when we first started dating. Hung up Coleman lanterns under the bridge. It got down to 29 degrees that night. She had all my cold weather gear on ( she insisted that she was going to go) we left at daybreak. I eased out through the boat and poured it to it for the 1.5 miles back to the launch. That has been several years ago now. I was tougher back then. Ha
