Been missing something and figured it out. There's no equipment thread on here! For crappie fishing I really like UL spinning. actually like it for trout too but seldom ever fish for them! They aren't bad but don't eat as well as crappie and cats! See a lot of reels around that might make UL spinning reels and actually found one I really really like. It's an Ocuma ignite, had to go get it to read the name off it! Thing is really small. Put it on an Ocuma Celilo 5' rod and have some 2# test line I stumbled into somewhere! This is the nicest UL rod and reel I've had in close to 40 yrs. The best before this was a Mitchell 308 on Garcia 3206 rod. Tell you how much I liked that rod and reel, I can remember the name and number's of them after all these years. I also like Mitchell 300's but couldn't tell you on which rod! I have three more small spinning reels, not as small as my present favortite but small. One is another Ocuma, a Shimano and the newest is a small Kastking. Something about Kastking. I got my first one, level wind Rover 40, simply because I could not believe how a guy was trashing it on the internet. For $40 I figured I'd get one and find out if anything could be that bad. This is a super reel and it led to me getting the spinning reel and have another inexpensive low profile reel on the way from them. If I actually have a favorite reel these days, it has to be my ABU level winds but I've got a number of other level winds and don't believe I have one I can't easily live with. Spinning reels don't seem to get the same coverage as level winds though so have to say the quality of reels in general over the years has come way up, I would pretty much try anything inexpensive I liked the looks of. So if your in the market for a new reel or rod, don't look for someone else's version of what's best, look for something you can afford and you like the looks and feel of. Nobody has tried them all!
