Thank you all for your welcome! I must admit that I sail more than I fish..... but, the wind doesn't blow every day!
I sail/fish on Pymatuning Lake, which is split between NE Ohio and NW Pennsylvania. Pymatuning is a 77,088 acre reservoir with more than 70 miles of shoreline. It's relatively shallow, 35' max depth, and is primarily known for Walleye. But there are a number of bays with shoreline trees and other conditions great for panfish and crappie! As I dig around looking for the best fishing news on Pymatuning, I see that the last post on the Pymatuning Lake Fishing Forum was in 2009. Not that I rely on online news, but are there any recommendations for where to check online? Once I get back to the lake I can ask at a couple of the bait shops, but I'd like to see posts of recent catches........
Some of my earliest and fondest memories were of fishing at Hinkley Lake in a Clevelend (Ohio) Metropark and at Piedmont Lake (known for Muskie) in SE Ohio where we had vacation property. I loved catching Bluegill......and wondered what these other guys were that sorta looked like them but weren't. That was my introduction to Crappie.....
P.S. Pymatuning is home to a PA fish hatchery with a small educational display and mounted records catches. The PA record for brown trout (now 20.9 pounds) was just broken last year. As an added incentive to fish, our boat club keeps a ledger board of the largest catch that year (by species).
