Eufaula 3-21 to 3-23...A tough time
Got to Eufaula on the afternoon 3-21 and set up camp at Lakepoint. Hit the water Monday AM and to start the day off right had motor issue's...cranked fine but would hit 3000 rpms and bog down. :banghead, Motor had run fine at the house on the rabbit ears, and cranked right up and would idle fine, but not get past 3000 rpms, did notice a thump vibration while idling. Pulled cowling and decided it was the fuel filter...ended up having drive to Prattville BPS (3 hr round trip) to get a new filter and bought a new fuel line and bulb as well. Get back to camp and replace said items, and test...same issue.:banghead Pulled the plugs and found out that they needed replacing so off to find a set of RA8HC plugs after checking local Marine repair shops found a set at Eufaula Marine and Power equipment shop. Get back to camp replace plugs...test and BINGO, runs like a champ again.
TIME TO FISH!
Hit the water and and catch 60 decent eating fish despite the wind, no slabs, but fillets for the freezer. Fished Barbour again and it was muddy and water temp was 62, fish were in 10-12 ft of water on wood, had to wade through a pile of dinks to catch a limit.
Hit the river on Wednesday, fighting the wind in the AM and couldn't hardly get a fish to bite, fish deep to shallow and fish were scattered but did manage to catch 30 decent fish. Water was clear in the Hooch (at that time, sure it will be muddy again after the latest deluge)...got up early woke yesterday due to a Thunderstorm...never got on the water due to the wind, same thing this AM, so we called it and come home.
It was a tough few days, and I learned a few things...
Put your boat in the water to test it...it may run fine at the house (which is good for seeing if it will crank and run/idle etc.)but will perform different under load. But I really didn't have a chance to do so I have been working a ton of OT and when I was off the weather was bad, until this week I had been fishing once and it was at a idle only lake.
I need to keep a fuel filter and extra plugs in my repair kit. Got caught short on that one. Need to get a spare trailer hub as well to keep in the toolbox just in case.
Weather forecasting is about useless. I knew this but this week was suppose to be sunny and mild...missed that forecast by a mile. From now on going to depend on my weather rock for weather conditions.
Didnt get to fish as much as I hoped, but still had a good time. Going back on Vacation the 4th, maybe the weather will be better then.
