Proud of my son catching his first big fish all by himself but... I let the fish get

Went fishing at civic center in Anderson because it’s been kinda my son and I spot. Got the smaller ones to bite but wouldn’t hang on then wham my son says I got one and I need help. I get over there and fish is blowing up water like crazy. All people in park are watching my son reel on this fish. Big ole catfish but he wouldn’t open his mouth and I didn’t have a net. Tried to grab by hook and drag him up on bank( I didn’t want to get finned) fish rolled spit hook out and swam off. I’m kinda leery about catfish since my friend had to go to Er to get barb pulled out of him. Idk what would y’all do in that situation. Really sad I didn’t get picture but my son couldn’t stop smiling and people at the park were all talking about him. Catfish had to be somewhere in the five to ten pound range and 18 to 24 inches long.

Congrats to your son. Next time just have him keep backing up and drag the fish onto the bank if you forget the net. (Carry your net!) HA! :)

I remember my daughter catching a big catfish when she was about 5. I got in the water so I could get my hands around it and get it out! I was more excited than she was!
She has now morphed into a strange and unexplainable creature, difficult to even be around, perhaps a bit dangerous. I think they call them "teenagers".
