We put out some boo condos last summer. The fish were there overnight.
So far this year we have yet to catch a single fish from them.
Do the fish only like them when the leaves are still on? seems strange cause we relly did well on them when first put out. We have been thinking about puting out more but if they only like em with leaves I think we will use trees instead. It's a lot of work to only catch em for a short time.

Depending on what state you live in and the depth of water that the bamboo tops are in that will tell allot about why the fish aren't there. Here in East Texas we are getting rain showers every few days. The crappie are suspending at 6 feet deep and really just roaming the lake and feeding on schooling shad. The bamboo will be most effective when the fish are holding in the depth that your tops are located in. When the fish move deeper as the water warms and the oxygen supply shallow dwindles the tops will hold many more fish.
Jigster , I've had the same problem. The new ones produce well sometimes. The older ones produce a few and some are void.:confused: I do well with trees ,but have changed over to stake beds . They are easier to fish without getting hung ,don't show up as well on depthfinder , and seem to hold fish. Only time will tell if they work for long.:D
I've had the same results with the bamboo condos that I have built. They get fish on them overnite and produce real well until the leaves come off. After that I don't have a lot of luck on them. Keep in mind that I may not have chosen the best places for them in the first place.
I haven't built any this last year but I'm hoping I can slow down long enough to build a few more this year. Since our lake is so shallow, less than 10 feet on the flats, I think that stakebeds may be the way to go.
they will go back to it when the water git hot . if they are in deep water . you need to put some in shallow water also . that is where stake beds are good or laydown bamboo . from spawning till hot weather they will be moovig from shallow to deep water as the water warms .

After reading and talking to my partner in crime. I think we are still a little early for them to be on it. We started putting it out last summer when temps were high. That explains why they were on them overnight. They are in deep water so we will just have to be patient.

when you driving to the lake you look at the cows in a pasture . think of them as fish . they will be feeding but still all togather most of the time . or they will be under a tree . the fish does the same thing . when a fish wan`t to cool off the go deeper and if in clear water they wan`t dark so they will find shade . a animal will do the same except the will git in the water some times to cool off . :eek: :eek: :D . if the animals are active so are the fish :D
Just remember there is only so many fish in an area. My expeience is to put out a lot on condos and move till I find one holding fish. I have over 200 marked on Nimrod Lake and fish as many as 40 some days. The old saying is don't put all your eggs in one basket. I don't make large condos but place several in a row @ 100 ' apart. I have most in 8 to 12' water along channel drops. But also have them from 5' to 20; also.:D
I used PVC, Bamboo, Trees, and cedar board stake beds. I have the best luck with stakebeds as they don't hang up jigs as much and hold fish real well.:cool:
Has anyone used bamboo to make stake beds? I have been lucky and have plenty of bamboo to to cut and use. Some of it is 30ft tall. So will have some big pieces left over.
I have some how about 2" or 3" thick. That will not have any leaves on them. Was thinking about driving them in the bottom and making beds out of them also,

I've got one like that and it seems to hold fish better the taller trees...of course i'm a firm believer in stake beds they seem to produce better for me day in and day out....they will work for ya red.Quote:
