I made my first long lining trip of 2021 yesterday in the late afternoon. The first cove was a bust with only one perch. The second cove was stacked up. We caught 10 in about 150 yards of trolling. All were keepers except one (they were all released today). On the way out of the creek it appeared I had fished the wrong side with all the arches on the graph. They were also aggressively feeding. I had two fish take two jigs off separate polls! I had never seen that happen before. This was a quick lets try to find them type of trip. At the end of the pull I had 6 of 7 poles tangled up and had to cut most of them to get them back in by hand. Again this was a first for me. I had tangles on sharp turns before where a couple may have tangled but this was the whole spread minus one, and it was a straight pull. I never saw any poles get hit either. It's still a mystery.

WT 58 degrees
Fishing in 15-25 feet of water
Jigs being pulled from 10-12 feet.

Sounds like one of my trips. Hate you had tangles when fish were present and biting. Could it be your lines were to close together and speed control was not maintained? :dono Maybe the kinks can be worked out before the next trip. Certainly hope so. Thanks for the report.

I am not an expert like some of you, but have many hours long lining over the last few years. Speed was constant, and there was no turns. The only thing I did different was to tie the jigs on with a loop knot vs a clinch knot. I keep thinking a fish (bass?) hit a jig a swam with boat and crossed the lines? Far fetched but who knows. Luckily we were pulling them in for the day when we noticed it happened.

Bass or catfish will mess you up in a New York minute, I only use loop knots and usually only get tangled in tight turns.
