Can you remember back when GPS trolling motors didn't exist and the average fisherman had to use an anchor or two? Well...I'm still that guy :Rofl Now I need new ropes and need to choose a type. I have always favored 3/8 cotton. Some swear by braided poly. If your memory goes back that far, what did you prefer?
My minn kota power anchors come with 1/4" braided nylon. Works great for me.
Good question, rope that stays soft and tangle free is a joy,I have a few, but have forgotten the brand name. If you use jam cleats that will effect your choice of diameter too. I would look at a sailing store, but what sailing boat users use for anchoring is very different from a crappie fisherman.

1/4" braided nylon is my choice-pricey but easiest to work with. Yes, I still use anchors on my 60 year old aluminum boat. No spot lock yet!
If you can afford it..Amsteel,,,,lasts forever,,strongest there is.
I use 3/8 braided poly. It is inexpensive and does not rot.
One suggestion do not use the finger lock splice on the anchor as it is subject to come undone.
I like 5/8 or 7/8 polypropylene that is at least 8 strands.
