Went to Reelfoot many years ago and didn't do any good. I'm a little gun shy hearing negative scuttlebut. I hear it is dying. Is water level normal or down? Hear tell some fish camps can't even get their boats in the water. Can someone set me straight before I waste a lot of money on a trip? Thanks all.

Give Ms. Judy a call at Boyettes Resort (Resort, not the restaurant). She is also a straight shooter on how things are at the lake. Boyettes is nothing fancy, but comfortable and priced right.
Water level shows a little over 13’ so that a long way from drying up. I kinda wonder how many years ago you went and didn’t do good. For the last 10 or so years the fishing has not been too good, the Asian carp has ruined the lake in many peoples opinion. I used to fish it regularly but moved last summer so I can’t give current information. Livescopers were doing good around deep water stumps last spring, me spider rigging not so much! And even though I now live on a lake I miss the beautiful scenery at Reelfoot.Quote:

The lake has been a little high lately due to rain. I'm afraid the water will be a little hard for the next week to ten days due to the below average temps we have now (not above freezing for a week). Once it thaws, it will be fine. Some say the fishing is dead but that's because you don't catch 200/day of the small fish like we use to. Now there's quality over quantity. There's fish in there, it just takes some effort. As for the above mentioned carp, they have not hurt that lake. The crappie have adjusted just fine. If you have an aluminum boat, I'd go the extra mile to protect anything in it in case one of those carp land in the boat. They are good at breaking rods.
