Watched a movie on the tube while contemplating when I should start using the snow blower on 18" that fell last night. One scene was John Malkovich fishing off a dock with him holding the spinning rod in his left hand while doing nothing with his right. Problem: the spinning reel handle was to the left of the left hand holding the rod. Not the first time I've seen this in a movie, won't be the last.
BTW, the movie stunk so maybe JM might better spend his time taking up fishing for reel.
Have not seen the movie. I jig with a spinning rod. Handle on the left. I am just as likely to hold in my left hand as my right. Depends on which side of the trolling motor I’m jigging.
I see this a lot in commercials.
I remember one commercial where the "fisherman" was holding a spinning rod with a fly reel and fly line running through the guides. At the end of the line, the "fisherman" had tied a giant bobber the size of a tennis ball. :Rofl
I crack up when I see actors or real folks using a spinning reel ON TOP of the rod handle & turning the reel handle "backwards" to reel in the line. Like such : :yikes

Yes I totally agree with you, I have seen it so many times that I am starting to think they do it just to make me yell. How can people who won directing awards not know anything about basic physics, let alone the simplest fishing basics.

Folks that dont fish often have seen so many bait caster people reeling with the reel on top and probably even used a zebco at some pint in their life that they go into sure i know how to do this mode when you give them an open faced reel .....
