First NIP Tide in many Years I Didn't Go Fishing, a most Philosophical Experience!

It was 31 degrees and damp this morning. Not unlike many mornings lately except it's Not our normal weather. Being 14 miles from the Gulf of Mexico we are usually much warmer on average. It is February 2nd and I have peach trees blooming. They already have their chill hours for the winter. So my thoughts all day has been on one question, why didn't I go today. In the past cold & damp would never slow me down if NIP tide. Those of you who have been Crappie fishing 15-20 years, are over 60 years of age, and still fish like your mad at them, I would like to know how much you still enjoy it? Have you become a fair weather angler? Do you bring hot coffee with you? The gloves posts let me know the guys in colder climates are stuffing hand warmers in their gloves. I have never held a hand warmer in my hand my whole life. Seems lots of things in the angling world are different this year, SK got Skunked? Man what is crappie fishing coming to..................

Hot coffee in vac bottle, warm thermals, hooded jacket, and hand warmers in pockets. Only thing that stops me is hard rain, or wind. Last 2 days were 15-20 mph wind gusting to 30+ = no go. Tomorrow is looking fishable.
PS I'm in that age group and still love to fish.

I’m still mad at em, like you say. I go whenever I can get the boat out of the yard. I have the clothes, coffee and have done it many times in the past. What has changed in recent years is the way a little sinus infection turns to pneumonia. Long story that I won’t bore you with, but early November I had a bout with double pneumonia and COVID-19. I had a lengthy recovery before I felt the effects lay down and go away. Don’t believe I’ll be pushing my luck much this winter. This is very hard for me as I’ve had some stellar days in temps below 30*.

I still chase them in ugly cold weather , and even in terribly hot weather .
I have lost a step or so though and sometimes don't flat out run to the water .
I find myself in that I really don't need to go show anyone they are actually in biting mode near as often as I used too . :Rofl
I do know I have been pretty cold a few times this year with less than stellar results .
This particular winter has not been kind to many of the local anglers for unknown reasons on several lakes .
I about froze to death in a yak one day , it was wet and cold ,but the bite was RED HOT so I toughed it out for about 6 hours .
Sure was stiff as a board when I tried to stand up and get off that surf board rotfl

Up north in Massachusetts,,, my family were scallop fisherman,,, season started in October and generally went until February when the weather became quite brutal,,, first thing fisherman would do is take their wool gloves and submerge them into the cold icy waters,,, once the gloves became cold enough, you got a nice ice covered glove that protected you from the winds and cold,,,boots and underwear were a different story,,, we dressed in layers mostly,,, by the end of a hard dAy pulli g drags,,, you’d end up with maybe your jeans and a light work shirt. so it all depends what your used to,,,,personally, I’d like to move to Ecuador this time of year...

Must admit, becoming more fair weather than I should. Or else lazy. Maybe just having a down year. Dunno. Maybe when might boat is fixed, I'll go up to my camp and fish a few days and think about it for a while. lol.
