Last night the wind sounded like a hurricane and at present is registering over 25 mph with wind chill below zero. In my younger days (feels like a century ago) I ventured out in winter even when the temp was a least above freezing and sunny; in summer when the temp was 85 or less. Now I'm less likely to fish in any range greater or less than 55 - 80.
Under what temperature extremes would you not fish in?
I’m going icefishing this afternoon. Temp is low 20’s here. Ice is finally thick enough to be comfortable for me. If the wind is that high, I don’t go, no matter what time of year it is.
I draw the line somewhere in the mid-40s. Sunny and calm is better. The cold breeze off of that water will cool you off quick, even if it's warm out.
If highs are much more than 90 in the summer, I often stay home. Even in the high 80s, I will find a shady bank and stay there until it starts getting dusky. Standing out in the sun like that is just miserable, I tolerate cold much better than heat.
We don't get any fishable ice here in SW MO. Occasionally get iced in, but for the most part you can fish all year. I am lucky to get out once a week in the winter, the days are so short that it's tough to get away early enough, and days that I have time to do so, that also coincide with good weather don't seem to happen that often.
I always thot it was neat with the ice fishn houses w heaters, cookstove, grill. Be good way to spend cold day if you lived up North. Specially with LS and multiple holes!! ��

It is a good thing that most of you don’t know that Florida exists.
10 degrees is my magic number, don’t hit it often in Oklahoma but I have stayed home when it does.
Lots of times our 20’s feel way worse because of the incessant wind.

Years ago I fished when the wind chill was below 20 but had a full body suit and goggles. Never did fish from inside a shed - couldn't see the point fishing all over the place, drilling holes, using the fish finder and jigging. Sometimes I'd drill 30 holes in a day. I remember one day everyone else leaving as a high wind started blowing snow like crazy but I couldn't leave. (Even caught a catfish during the gale force wind.) Guess I needed to avoid cabin fever any way possible.
Kansas in July-Aug-Early Sept. when temps are over 95 degrees the the dew point exceeds 70. Oh the crappie bite will still be good. But, you're sweating so much you're soaked to the bone. I've caught crappie on 100 degree days in 6 feet of water. Close to old river channels of course
I am going out tomorrow morning. The temperature is supposed to be about -4. I have fished in -27 before. Luckily my buddy has a small portable shack. If not for that I would be staying home tomorrow.
