Rigging a new ride
I am about to purchase a new boat and going to be starting from scratch. I am not up to date on all the latest and greatest so I am looking for ideas. For the trolling motor, I would like to have a remote and spot loc. What about electronics for dash and front? Rod holders? $3,000 limit.

I’d go millennium rod holders... Minn Kota trolling motor and humming bird electronics going to be slim on a 3 k budget you can spend that on just the motor or just the electronics... may can swing a new helix 7 or go used and get something a little bigger

What boat are you thinking ? Flat bottom , Jon boat ? Fished for years with a Minn kota 5 speed and a flasher . If you have good eye sight a smaller depth finder will work . I prefer GMC to Ford but have been driving fords a long time . lol

I agree with Erin in that it will be difficult to rig on $3k. But you don't have to start with the latest and greatest stuff. Think about whats the most important to you and start there. For me it would be get the troller you want and add nicer electronics as the budget allows. It is a great time in a fisherman's life when they can rig the new ride. Enjoy your journey thru this. In my 50 years of doing this I have found the upgrades never end.:cheers2

If you are getting a new boat then upgrading the boat for safety or reliability should not be a cost impact. My approach was a little different I reckon and I have been in your shoes but with an older boat to start with. I bought the millennium rod holders and good trolling motor and a used "fish finder". Still using the same rod holders and trolling motor as they were quality when I bought them and still considered quality in my personal opinion. I have since saved and bought one good HB Helix and hope to use it for many years and hope to add another in the near future. Reckon I'm saying I did without all I wanted by purchasing quality product that I would not have to replace or upgrade. There is some good post in the classified section of the forum with some quality items, and I'd for sure keep an eye on that. GOOD LUCK!
